Offer You More Omega-3
Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)
What are essential fatty acids?
There are two types in your body: Omega-3 and Omega-6. They are
both essential for your health; however, as a general rule, omega-3s and
omega-6s have opposite effects on your body. Consequently, for optimum
health, you need the right mix or ratio of EFAs.
Omega-3 fatty acids are known as the “good fat” as well as being the most
“heart friendly.” They play a vital role in every cell and system in your
body. Careful research shows that people who have ample amounts of
omega-3s in their diet have a lower risk of a host of diseases and
conditions including cancer, depression, obesity, diabetes, arthritis,
allergies, asthma, and dementia. Men and women with an omega-3-rich diet
are also less likely to have high blood pressure and an irregular
heartbeat. One reason these ailments are so prevalent in the United States
is that our diet, like most western diets, is abnormally low in omega-3s
and high in omega-6s. More than people realize, taking animals off pasture
has contributed to this omega-3 deficiency.
Buy your food from a grass-based producer and it will contain 2 to 10
times more omega-3 fatty acids than food in the grocery store! The
explanation is simple: Omega-3 fatty acids are formed in the chloroplasts
of green plants. Sixty percent of the fatty acids in grass are omega-3s.
As a direct result, animals that graze on grass have more omega-3s in
their meat, eggs, and dairy products.
